India Ranks 102 in Global Hunger Index

The Global Hunger Index (GHI) studies the number of people starving in countries, the poverty rate & their health conditions. The GHI collects reports of number of people starving at an International, regional and national level. GHI focusses on four important points. 1. They check if countries in the world are receiving proper food or not. 2. They check how many children are malnourished, 3. They also investigate the number of children with stunted growth due to food shortage. 4. They check the mortality rate of children below the age of 5 due to starvation. The GHI said that zero points indicate there is excellent care, nutritious food and no one is starving. These points are concerned only with poverty. and 100 points means the worst and that people in that country have no food to eat. 117 countries were selected and judged as per the GHI and these countries were ranked from the 1st – which was the best- to 117th. Pakistan ranked 94th, Bangladesh ranked 88th and Nepal ranked 73rd. India secured 30.3 points and was ranked 102nd. This is really low. This means that Indias are suffering and starving. There are many in India who are not being cared for. Among all South Asian countries India was ranked the lowest at 102. Earlier in 2014, India was ranked 55th. Now we have fallen to 102nd. While India’s leaders are showing off India’s achievements, the truth is that Indians are suffering with nothing to eat.
