NEW HUNGER GAMES BOOK & MOVIE COMING 2020: Explained/Thoughts & Predictions

[Fire sounds] As many of you know I’m a huge Hunger Games fan, and have made countless videos on characters and places from the series. and to be honest, I never thought there would be another Hunger Games book or movie. In this video, I’m going to give you the facts and tell you everything that we know about this new novel, and then I’ll break some things down and give my personal opinions and perditions on this news. After the final film was finished back in 2015. Susan Collins, the writer of the trilogy said Now, four years later, the publisher for her series, Scholastic, just announced they have a release date of May 19th 2020 for a prequel novel to the original series. It’s going to be set 64 years before the start of the original Hunger Games novels and timed for the reaping of the 10th Hunger Games. Collins stated that with this book she wanted to explore the state of nature, who are are and what we perceive and for the actual time period she chose for this novel it will be focused on the reconstruction period ten years after the war, commonly known as the dark days as the county Panem struggles back on it’s feet. She said its going provide fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions, and there by define their views of humanity. Dark days are an interesting topic to focus on becasue it’s ten years after the districts attempt to rise up the first time around and failed forcing them to participate in the Hunger Games as punishment for their betrayal.
Terrible war, this was the uprising that brought out land
13 districts rebelled against the county that
fed them, loved them, protected them.
brother turned on brother until nothing remained so far we haven’t gotten much on the book all we have is the cover but no title and no characters have been revealed. but I’ll talk about the characters in a minute. The thing on everybody’s mind is, is there going to be a movie? and right now the answer is yes. Lionsgate is the movie company that has the rights to the franchise. Making the four films and much of the merchandise, including clothing and action figures and so on since the announcement of this book they said that they were the proud home of the Hunger Games movies and said that they could hardly wait for Susan’s next book to be published. They went on to say that they have been talking with her during the writing process and said that they looked forward to continuing to work closely with her for the new movie so it looks like from the start they had planed to this book on the big screen soon after the books release. Now the big question is will it be sucessful and will it be good Just looking at the numbers of the previous installments. The trilliogy of novels sold over one hundred million copies and remained on New York’s Times best sellers list for five consecutive years and the films made three billion dollars. So even if just a fraction of those fans come back to read this and see the movie it will be successful with out a doubt, but will it be good? This time around they wont have the characters and actors that we’ve come to love like Katniss played by Jennifer Lawrence Peeta played by Josh Hutcherson Haymitch played by Woody Harrelson and so on, there are so many on the list. However, there are a few characters from the original series that were alive during this time period. Coriolanus Snow, the President during the original series. Was one years old during the first Hunger Games so here he would be ten years old. He lived in the Capital so it’s unlikely that we’ll see him, and if we do it will probably be a small cameo and an easter egg to the original series, but having him is a great possibility. Another character that could make an appearance is Mags Flanagan We meet her in Catching Fire when she went into the area taking the place of Annie. She first participated in the eleventh Hunger Games so that would be one year after this book takes place. We know that she died at the age of 80 in the 75th Hunger Games making her 15 during the events of this book. It’s much more likely that we’ll see her in District 4 than we’ll see Snow in the Capital but I’m excited to see if they expand on her character more and one other character that could possibly make an appearance is Greasy Sae, though this one is the least unlikely. She means a lot more in the films than in the books as in the films she was the one who gave Katniss the mockingjay pin However, in the books it was given to her by Madge. We might see these characters but maybe we wont. It could be possible that none of them will make an appearance at all and we’ll get a new line of all original characters. Now lets break some stuff down as I give my personal opinion and predictions on the book and movie The cover is very reminiscent of the first book. With the black background very unlike the red and blue cover that we got for the books that followed. What we dont have is the title. The prequel cover has a single feather, which most likely represents a bird. Something that was present on every cover of the original series so it makes sense that it would be here too Birds have always meant a lot to the series and have always had deeper meanings. Becasue we just have a single feather here my thinking is that we know that the mockingjays is the logo of the rebellion
This is revolution, and you are the
mockingjay. and it took 74 years to make that happen it makes sense that single feather will come to be the mockingjay. As I said Lionsgate is already working with Collins during the writing process which kinda worries me. Lionsgate is a big company and big companies care about money more than anyting They just recently licensed the film property to theme parks and live concert tours being built around the movie franchise. So they’re already tring to make a quick buck on the series which is totally fine that business as expected. But what worries me is that fact that Collins is already working with them before she even finsihed the book, I don’t wanna see the movie company have too much input into her writing. and I don’t want her to write the book so its easier to adapt to a film I want her to write a novel not a screenplay and the reason why I bring this up. is becasue she was activly involved in the making of the four films, so she knows what it takes to make a movie and the struggles that come with it especially when adapting a book to the big screen. I just hope she writes it more like book, and less like a movie. At this point she needs to focus on the novel and only the novel Also, while we’re speaking of money it’s clear that Scholastic, the publishing company for the novels is also very excited this book and again they’re a big company so are they excited because the franchise is moving forward or are they excited because they know they’re about to make a lot of money? To be honest, I think it’s a bit of both the Scholastic President said: Since the end of the movie franchise Lionsgate has been pressured to expand the series past the books to draw in younger audiences but they respected Collins work too much to move the story forward without her. and for that I have great respect for them because lets be honest, in the past that did not work well for other franchises. The most notable being the ending of Game of Thrones, the Walking Dead going past the comics, the very split fanbase for the Fantastic Beasts films to extend the Harry Potter universe and the very split audience for the sequel Start Wars series without George Lucus Another big question is will it be relevant by 2020? The first book came out in 2008. So it will be 12 years since then. While the simple answer to that question is yes it will. If you just look at my channel alone I uploaded Hunger Games 3 or 4 years after the series ended and many of them got millions of views and I constantly have people asking for more Hunger Games vidoes so clearly there are still very loyal fans with a thirst for more and lets not forget theres a whole new generation to be introduced to this series. those that might have been too young to read or watch the violent storytelling that can now read and see it All in all, I’m very excited for the new book and film and I’d really hope that they arent plagued by the things that I mentioned earlier I honestly hope that I fall in love with this book, movie and time period in Panem The way I did with the original series. 1. I was really hoping to read on how Panem got back on its feet after the fall of the Capitol and how the characters go from guarded to relieved. Or I would even enjoy reading the same story line, just from Peeta's perspective, but anything written by Suzanne Collins will satisfy me just as well.

  2. It should’ve been set in the 11th Hunger Games not the 10th because then we could’ve seen Mags win the 11th hunger games

  3. I originally thought it might be about the last hunger games, where Snow’s Granddaughter Is the main character, and they participate with other capitol children.

It would show the Rebels as the bad guys, so basically what the Capitol thought of em. 🙂

Still think it would still be cool! :3

  4. Notice how haymitch is the only victor in D12 ‘Alive’. Maybe the D12 victor in the 10th games was an ancestor of katniss and will be the main protagonist. Maybe he or she just died before the 74th games.

  5. At the end of the movie or book it would be a really climactic ending if it was the reaping for the 11th games. Then suddenly we hear Mag’s name.

  6. I personally don't want to see too much fan service in the book or movie. I mean, it wouldn't be relevant to have a story with an ancestor of Katniss or something being similar to her and doing similar things… It's not a Star Wars movie with a Skywalker type of characters. It's about Katniss, a nobody becoming a face for the rebellion against oppression. So it wouldn't make sense if we meet ancestors of the characters we know just for the nudge to the fans… However, like you said, Mag could make an appearance or even be relevant to the story in some way and same for Snow or they could be totally irrelevant and it would be still pretty fine. If it's well put togheter and it has thematic sense with the message of the story, it can be very interesting to have characters we know or that we recognize the name. I just hope we don't get irrelevant characters there just to make a nudge to the fans. I hope that it's well put togheter for us to have a compelling story and interesting characters. That's all I have to say. I hope I make sense?

  7. OMG!!!! I'm so happy Ms. Collins is doing a Hunger Games prequel!!! I loved the original trilogy, so I'm super stoked for this new book, and I now have a reason to look forward to next year. I know millions of other Hunger Games fans share my excitement!

  8. When and where was this announced? I just checkd goodreads and there was nothing about an upcoming novel in the series?

  9. Could Suzanne Collins one day make a series about how the capitol and the districts were established and also about the dark days

  10. I’m half way through the last book bc I was just born when the first book came out so I couldn’t read it then

  11. If i think on the hungergames i just see katniss peeta haymitch i realy gonne mis them in this movie/book but im So exited

  12. I’m very exited but I agree I hope she writes it like a book not a movie.

May the odds be ever in your favor Suzanne Collins!

  13. yasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  14. Loved the movies but I'm also a huge Jennifer Lawrence fan so I'm pretty fucking sad that instead of going forwards with katniss were going back…. hoping that a sequel to the story of the mockingjay wont be forgotten.

  15. Can I read this book without reading the trilogy? I have watched the movies several times and I adore them soo much ❤️❤️

  16. i'm sad that we wont be seeing the old characters!!!🤩
Every night I lie awake thinking about how outstanding the books are, and i couldn't stop thinking about the movies for the whole summer.💭
I honestly don't want new characters!!!!! What about a prequel told from Katniss???🤧🤧🤧

  17. The feather on the cover could represent a quill used in writing in past historic eras, so maybe the new movie will expand on the history of Panem, how it happened, what wars or disasters occurred and what happened to the rest of the world outside of North America

  18. Thait.
    There's a new HG book!?
    Damn, Now I'm conflicted.
I mean I liked the first part of series, but then mockingjay ruined it.
And I've also read the underland Chronicles although to be fair, that although very mean to my heart is something I still love.
    But what is she doing?
    Will this be good?
Oh who Am I kidding, We all know I'm going to read it.

  19. I think it's brilliant that it's set in distant past from Hunger Games trilogy timeline, as they won't have to gather together each and every actors from HG (who have aged significantly, became pretty heavy duty and busy now) once this new book's movie goes in production.

The feather could signify the first generations of mockingjay as they were actual products of crossbreeding during dire times back then.

Also, I'm guessing it has to carry the darkest stories and themes yet since it will be tackling the starting period of a long oppression for all of Panem. So I'm already bearing myself for how depressing (and have heavy showcasing of hopelessness) this book will be.

  20. I am so excited I can’t even explain I have been a fan of the hunger games for so long and to hear that there is a new book and maybe a new movie I am ecstatic!!
Suzzane Collins is an amazing writer and I just know that this book will be truly something!!

  21. I think it will be about maggs because she was 15 at the time (maybe it mentioned how old she was when she went in, in the books but i forgot)

  22. I'll miss Katniss, Peeta, Haymitch, Effie, Johanna, and Finnick so much. Even Gale was a very interesting character to watch. It will be hard to move on from them😭😭😭😭😭😭

  23. I’d like books about main characters who have won’s games that they participated in
    Such as;

  24. My mom shode me the first movie I liked it so I watched the 2 and then the 3 and 4 in the same day I want to read the books and I’m so excited for the new book and movie

  25. I hope this isn’t the last book/movie we see from The Hunger Games franchise, I’d love to see what the very first games was like and a lot of the victors games like Haymitch, Maggs, Finnick and so on 😊
