Undernourished and Overweight

How is it that we have a society of such undernourished yet overweight people? The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation raises 100 million dollars each year to fight childhood obesity. The food industry spends that by January 4. Dr. Hans Diehl says that McDonald’s spends 600 million dollars more than the dairy industry
does each year. Who spends 4 times as much as cereals like
Frosted Flakes do and yet they still spend fifty times as much
as The National Cancer Institute did for promote fruits and vegetables last year. Unfortunately, we have an economy that values
money just a little bit more than the well-being
of its people. If that weren’t the case the percent of
calories in the average US diet from unprocessed food would be higher than 14%. And nobody said it better than writer Wendel Berry: “We have a food industry that pays no attention
to Health and a Healthcare Industry that pays no attention
to food.” I leave you with a statistic of hope. In 1972 the fast food industry was valued
at 3 billion dollars. Fast forward 40 years to the 50 fold increase
to the 163 billion dollar industry we see today. Just remember that the working class has the ability to make millionaires every
single day with just what we choose to eat.
